Marking their territory

This morning I had to talk to our youngest two about ‘marking their territory’. I used the imagery of how cats and dogs frequently wee when they’re outside because they use their urine to mark their territory, to let other cats and dogs know that this is their turf. Mr Six and I have been discussing these behaviours this last few days, as we have noticed distinctly territorial behaviours happening. Mr Six teases me about comparing them to animal behaviours (which I understand), but they help me to understand and call out for myself what […]

Happy birthday Little Bud!

Eight years ago today, our beautiful bundle of blessing burst into our lives. We had not long lost my Mum and I remember struggling to feel happy about much, to be honest. The grief was raw. And yet, in the midst of the pain and heartache, this little girl was a complete joy. Sure, she slept less than the other two. Significantly less! She refused point blank to take a bottle until she had to when I went back to work six months later! She was feisty and loud. She and I took a trip to London […]

Happy birthday Big Girl!

Twelve years ago today, we were finally at the end of a long and traumatic twenty four hours. Big Girl had made her appearance, though she hadn’t been keen to leave the warmth and comfort of her home of nine months! A loooooong delivery, plenty of vomiting, an eventual epidural, a set of forceps and one operation for Mummy later, she made it. Today she is taller than me, wearing my clothes and shoes, generally louder than me and funnier than me. She is strong, feisty, independent, kind and loving. She is growing into her […]

She was excited mostly because being four means presents, being allowed to go to our church Kids’ Club, and moving up from her pre-schooler swimming class to a “real” swimming lesson like her sisters.Movie Carol (2015) Her fourth birthday also brought her first real tears that we have been able to attribute to (and name for her as) grief for the loss of her foster carers. No doubt she has grieved […]
