We’re plodding along ;-)

My blogging habits have become somewhat sporadic over the last few months. I’ve got a few blogs in the pipeline, but not ones that seem to be coming together easily to be honest. Our desktop computer died a few months back, so although I can write drafts on my phone, I can only post to the blog when Mr Six doesn’t need the laptop for work stuff. But it’s also because we have changes afoot in our lives and it hasn’t felt like the right time to write about them until now. I’m not good […]

Watoto: what a 24 hours!

The Watoto choir arrived on Friday lunchtime and left on Saturday lunchtime. The concert at our church was on Friday evening. Our time with them was brief, but they have left a huge imprint on our hearts. On Friday afternoon when we arrived at church, the choir had not long been there and the kids were generally really shy and quiet. They did some sound checking and their team of Aunties and Uncles were setting up for the evening event. Little Legs stayed very close by me, with her hands over her ears and a look […]

Happy birthday Little Bud!

Eight years ago today, our beautiful bundle of blessing burst into our lives. We had not long lost my Mum and I remember struggling to feel happy about much, to be honest. The grief was raw. And yet, in the midst of the pain and heartache, this little girl was a complete joy. Sure, she slept less than the other two. Significantly less! She refused point blank to take a bottle until she had to when I went back to work six months later! She was feisty and loud. She and I took a trip to London […]

Our 2016

Mr Six and I were chatting last night…well around 1am, after we had seen in the New Year and finally got the girls into bed. Chatting about our 2016. We were reminding each other of the reality of how 2016 was for our little family; about all the great things that we have experienced or worked hard at over the year. He was listing the adventures and fun stuff we have done, while I was selecting adjectives such as ‘challenging’, ‘exhausting’, ‘adventurous’ and ‘full to emotional capacity’! We’ve seen and read lots of blog posts and media pieces about […]

Fantastic Beasts review – spoiler alert!

Review written by Big Girl, aged 12, and edited with a little help from Mum (Mrs 6). We saw “Fantastic Beasts and where to find them” on the day it was released, at our local cinema. Here is my review of the film, with a little help from Pottermore.com. Obviously spoilers are lurking below, read at your own risk! Plot summary: This is a story about one man: Newt Scamander and his suitcase of magical beasts. He takes a journey from England to America. On his first day in America some of the beasts escape and that is […]

Happy birthday Big Girl!

Twelve years ago today, we were finally at the end of a long and traumatic twenty four hours. Big Girl had made her appearance, though she hadn’t been keen to leave the warmth and comfort of her home of nine months! A loooooong delivery, plenty of vomiting, an eventual epidural, a set of forceps and one operation for Mummy later, she made it. Today she is taller than me, wearing my clothes and shoes, generally louder than me and funnier than me. She is strong, feisty, independent, kind and loving. She is growing into her […]

The best kind of influence

We may not always like it, but our lives display the influences of people whose paths have crossed with ours over the years. From family to friends and even acquaintances, the way that people around us live their lives will impact how we choose to live ours. Just reading this paragraph will likely stir memories of the people who have most impacted your life. I grew up in a suburban area of South Manchester. I had an awesome Mum and Dad (still have my awesome Dad!) and a fab little sister. We lived in a semi detached […]

A swimtastic weekend!

We’re having a slow home ed day today (Monday) to recover from our brilliant, if exhausting, weekend at the girls’ first swimming gala. Everyone’s pooped and looking forward to not doing very much at home today, after being at our local Regional Pool from 8.30-5.00 on Saturday and Sunday. The swimming championships were open to clubs in our region and included swimmers doing their first gala, who had no competition times. It was the culmination of a summer of hard work by the all four of the girls, though obviously (and much to her disgust!) […]

Our summer holiday

We’ve just got back from a nine day holiday to Cardiff, which Mr Six and I reckon is the longest break we’ve had in one stretch since we had our first child eleven years ago! All things considered it was a good time away and everyone coped really well with the newness of it all – new place to stay for all of us, lots of eating out in different cafes and restaurants, new things to do and places to visit, different sleeping arrangements to home. Little Legs coped well whilst we were away – eating and […]
